WPC, SPC or carbon crystal: choosing a wall panel

Product guides

Our wall panels look alike once they are on the wall: a large, smooth sheet with a wood grain, stone, cloth, metal or solid-colour finish. What differs is the core. WPC, SPC and carbon crystal panels vary in thickness, sheet size and weight, and those differences decide how a panel is handled, which trims it takes and where it works best.

This guide sets out the facts from our catalogue so you can compare the panels side by side.

WPC: the widest choice of thickness

WPC stands for wood-plastic composite. Our WPC wall panel is the most versatile in the range: it comes in 5, 8, 12, 15 and 18 mm, in 1100 × 2800 mm sheets of 3.08 m² (the 18 mm board is 1220 × 2800 mm, 3.416 m²). The listed weight is 4 kg/m² at 5 mm and 6 kg/m² at 8 mm, so the thinner sheets are easy to carry and cut.

WPC is also used for our 8 mm solid splicing boards, which join with a U-seam, P-seam, V-seam or tight seam, giving a choice of joint lines across the wall.

SPC: dense and stone-based

SPC stands for stone-plastic composite. Our SPC wall panel is 5 mm thick and comes in larger 1220 × 2800 mm sheets of 3.416 m². At 10.5 kg/m² it is the heaviest panel per square metre in the range, so plan for two people to handle full sheets. The SPC Background Wall, a 5 mm SPC panel with a glossy or matte surface, comes in 1100 × 2800 mm sheets at the same weight.

Carbon crystal: 5 or 8 mm in every finish series

Carbon crystal panels come in 5 mm and 8 mm, in 1100 × 2800 mm sheets of 3.08 m², and in all three finish series: Classic, Metal and GZ.

Panels for particular jobs

Three more panel types are made for specific uses:

  • Anti-collision panels, 5 mm (6.7 kg/m²) or 8 mm (7.3 kg/m²), in 1100 × 2800 mm sheets, for corridors and other areas that take knocks.
  • Fireproof panels, 5 mm, in 1220 × 2440 mm sheets of 2.977 m² at 6 kg/m², in the Classic series.
  • HD printing panels, 5 mm or 8 mm, in 1100 × 2800 mm sheets with a glossy or matte surface.

Finish series

Most panels come in three finish series. Classic covers solid colour, wood grain, cloth grain and stone grain finishes. Metal is the metal-finish series. GZ is our most economical series. Not every combination exists: GZ is not available for the 12, 15 and 18 mm WPC panels, and the fireproof panel comes in Classic only.

Thickness decides the trims

Aluminium profiles are made for a panel thickness. Profiles in our 5 mm range fit 5 mm panels; those in the 8–9 mm range fit 8 mm and 9 mm panels. Choose the panel thickness first, then pick corners, joints and edge trims from the matching range. Our guide to aluminium trims explains each profile type.
